Lausanne, in a splendid setting between the lake and the mountains, is renowned for its qualities as a big village and a small metropolis, where you will find a truly welcoming environment and a Human way of thinking.

Visit the Old Town with the "Place de la Palud", its cobble stones, its town hall and its famous clock which attracts quite a crowd. On the hour, come to watch and listen to the story of the liberation of the Canton from the Bernese yoke. Discover the superb 13th century cathedral which dominates the city and do not forget to go window- shopping the boutiques of the Rue de Bourg.

Enjoy a stroll on the piers of Ouchy alongside Lake Geneva shore and check out the Olympic Museum situated in a superb, very natural kept park. Yet other museums are also worth visiting: the Uneducated Arts Collection, unique in the world; the Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts (mu.dac) and its exceptional glassworks collection; the Hermitage Foundation in a 19th century manor house, dedicated to fine arts exhibitions; the Elysée Museum for photography lovers and the Historical Museum for different temporary thematic exhibitions.

From a cultural point of view, the Béjart Ballet is of course one of the most outstanding happenings in Lausanne. Admire one of the creations of Maurice Béjart in the amazing Métropole music hall. In a quite different field, enjoy a film at the film-library Cinémathèque suisse, which offers one of the greatest film collections of the Old Continent.

If you like smaller performances and concerts, the capital of the Vaud canton offers you plenty of opportunities for all tastes: theatre performances at the Arsenic, the Kléber-Méleau, the Boulimie, the Théâtre de Vidy and at the Grange de Dorigny; classic music at the Paderewski, dance at the Séveli n 36, jazz at the Chorus and the Pianissimo as well as alternative rock music at the Bleu Lézard cellar, the preferred students' meeting point.

In Lausanne, you will also find a vibrant nightlife with well-known clubs dedicated to electronic music, like the Loft, the MAD and the D! Club; but you can also get into the latin groove at the very hot Atelier Volant.

Well, it is impossible to talk about Lausanne without evoking the LHC, the local ice hockey club. You will not want to miss the emotions and the atmosphere of a match at the Malley ice rink.

Echallens, house of the corn and bread

Appointment in Echallens (10 km from Romanel) to learn all about the corn and wheat history. The corn and bread museum welcomes small and tall from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year. We recommend all the same to ask for information beforehand .

An unforgettable visit of 75 minutes during which the children can even touch the pastry and make their own bread (on reservation)

Gorges de l’Orbe

In the mood for a walk in the middle of a varying and intact nature? Follow the river Orbe, which crosses the waterfalls and makes its way through the canyons. Thanks to the footpath you can by turns walk along the brook and the rocks. This 15 km long walk leads from Orbe to Vallorbe“.

You will be able to admire a vast abundance of botanic specimens ranging from natural pine forest to certain orchids. In Orbe you will also find a manifold fauna such as the trout, a variety of macro invertebrate but also herds of chamois or beavers.

Romainmôtier

Appointment in Romainmôtier in order to visit the oldest Romanesque abbey in Switzerland ; it was built in the Xth century on the very spot of the two preceding minsters from the Vth and VIIth century.

Once a month, from March to November, you will be able to attend the concerts of Romainmôtier and listen to the sacred musical masterpieces, interpreted by the most distinguished orchestras.

La Sarraz

Some 20 km from Romanel you will be able to discover the back- country of the Lake-Geneva- Region and merge with its history, going for walks and enjoying uncountable activities surrounded by an intact nature.

When passing by La Sarraz, visit the castle of La Sarraz, constructed in 1049 in order to control this main passage, which connected the Burgundy with Italy. The castle of La Sarraz was the residence of the barons of La Sarraz until the death of the last lady of the Manor in 1948. Whilst visiting the castle you will discover precious furniture, splendid silverware as well as beautiful and rare bone china.

This edifice allocates nowadays splendid halls, restored for weddings, gatherings and all sorts of meetings.

North/West of Lausanne, at only 10 minutes from the city center, join this picturesque location easily accessible by the ring highway of Lausanne.

Arrival by car:
From Geneva/France on highway A1:
Around Lausanne take the A9 heading to Grand St Bernard, Simplon, Vevey, Montreux. Exit at Lausanne-Blécherette and take a right heading to Echallens, Le Mont. At the traffic light turn left up to the next traffic light. Take a right into Rte d'Yverdon for approximately 1 km. Turn left to Romanel and follow the main road to the center of the village, where the Minotel à la Chotte is located.

From Bern/Zurich on highway A12:
Around Saint-Légier take the A9 heading to Geneva, Lausanne. Exit at Lausanne-Blécherette and take a right heading to Echallens, Le Mont. At the traffic light turn left up to the next traffic light. Take a right into Rte d'Yverdon for approximately 1 km. Turn left to Romanel and follow the main road to the center of th village, where the Minotel à la Chotte is located.

Arrival by train and public transports:
The Swiss train company CFF/SBB offers many daily international connections to Lausanne. At Lausanne Flon, (5 mn walk away for the CFF train station, take the regional train (LEB) direction of Bercher and stop at Romanel-sur-Lausanne (approx. 10 mn journey).
