The fossil trail leads you from the village Penha Garcia to a
fossil rich valley from primitive times when the whole region used to
be a former sea.
The mine trial leads you to the metal mines of the region
(plumb, gold, tin) across the Rio Erges valley.
The Egitânea trail , former name of Idanha-a-Velha, leaves its
mark by its picturesque atmosphere of this archaeological village
known for its Roman remains.
The vulture trail lets you discover numerous birds of pry of
the region in their natural environment.
Map & Directions
The Hotel Estrela da Idanha is situated at the entrance of
the
historic village of Idanha-a-Nova, close to Castelo
Branco, in the region of Beira Baixa in Portugal.
By car :
Arriving on the motorway A23, connecting Torres Novas with
Guarda, take the exit n° 24-Lardosa and continue direction
Lousa then Idanha-a-Nova.
At the roundabout at the village entrance continue straight ahead
and
turn right after 300 m in order to reach the hotel.
By train : Castelo Branco train station, at 38 km of distance, is served
by trains from Lisbon, Guarda and Entroncamento. From the train
station take a bus as far as Idanha-a-Nova.
By plane :
From Lisbon airport , at 250 km of distance, take the
motorway
A1. At the exit n° 7-Abrantes join the motorway A23. Continue
direction Castelo Branco and follow then above instructions.
From Porto airport, at 320 km of distance, take the motorway
A1 direction Porto then Lisbon. Take the exit n° 16- Aveiro Norte
and
continue on the motorway A25 direction Guarda. After 140 km take the
exit n° 30-Pinhel, continue on the motorway A23 direction Castelo
Branco and follow then above instructions.
